The death of King Edward the Confessor of England in early 1066 set up a conflict between conflicting claimants to the throne that would end later that year at the Battle of Hastings. Prior to that most famous of English battles, King Harold Godwinson had to defend his throne against an army of Norwegians led by Harald Hadrada and Harold’s brother Tostig Godwinson.
The Norwegians were famously without their armor when they encountered the English army and their retreat was covered (legendarily) by a large ax-wielding Norseman who killed over 40 Englishmen while defending the span of a wooden bridge. We’ve given two versions of this figure – one in armor and one without – in order for you to use him in any of your Viking armies as a Berserker.
There are also several English attackers including the clever fellow who jumped in and went under the bridge to spear him from below!
This set can be used in conjunction with our Modular Wooden Bridge set as well!
